Journey
to the Visayan archipelago and get to know Cebu, an island
filled with culture, history and religion. Though surrounded
by the Philippines' other island provinces, Cebu is the
mightiest of them all, maintaining a strong local identity.
The regional dialect is Cebuano, which until now is considered
by locals here as the national language. A metropolis
in its own right, Cebu is growing as a site for innovation
and commercial development; numerous establishments, international
businesses and large luxury hotels have already located
themselves here. Cebu is also home to many national historical
events, and landmarks are scattered around the island
to tell the story. Cebu has been lucky to have been able
to preserve many holy sites established over time. Demonstrating
Cebu's strong devotion to the Catholic religion is the
annual Sinulog Festival held the 3rd Sunday in January
where thousands of Cebuanos, devotees, guests and tourists
revere the little boy Saint, Sto. Niño. Whenever
you're in the Visayas, don't miss Cebu! |
