A
place of refined culture and strong local identity, Zamboanga
is worth a visit. Located at the Western part of Mindanao,
the peninsula of Zamboanga is divided into 5 political
divisions namely: Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur,
Zambuanga Sibugay, Zamboanga City and Isabela City. Four
of the divisions are mainly agricultural and rural settlements,
however Zamboanga City is considered to be the center
of commerce and industry. Known as the "little Spin
of the Philippines", there are still many traces
of our former European colonizers in Zamboanga. The main
dialect, Chavacano is mostly composed of Spanish words.
Another known fact about Zamboanga is its abundance of
seafood. The cooking style is Creole Spanish with local
influences, at very affordable prices. In October, Zamboanga
holds the annual Zamboanga Hermosa Festival, a month-long
celebration which includes the Regatta de Zamboanga, or
the festival of ventas (colorful local-made sail boats).
Zamboanga is also the gateway to other local and international
destinations such as Bongao, Jolo, and Sandakan in Malaysia.
A vibrant sight to see and a feast to experience. Zamboanga
welcomes you to its shores. |
